This guy went above and beyond to help a struggling chip shop owner

It’s amazing what one Facebook post can do.

LAST SATURDAY, Colin Ross from Alberta, Canada visited local chipper Whitbie’s for the first time.

While he was there, he told Buzzfeed, no one came in except an “old guy sitting in a chair” who turned out to be the owner, John McMillan.

Ross thought his meal was ‘amazing’, and wondered why more people weren’t visiting the restaurant – he asked McMillan how business was going:

He said he can’t even pay himself at the end of the day… that really bothered me.

Ross decided to make a “nice social media post” about McMillan and Whitbie’s, praising his meal and asking people to try it out:

Anyone who knows me, I have a big heart and I want people to do well, especially a 70-year-old man who has put in his time. I ask everyone in Lethbridge to share this and go support this hard-working gentleman, he deserves it.

The post unexpectedly blew up, getting shared over 8,000 times – and people flocked to Whitbie’s in droves.

Around 900 people visited the restaurant over two days, the busiest McMillan has been in years. He told Global News he was happy to share his dream of opening a fish and chip shop with them:

[Ross] did it out of the goodness of his heart and Lethbridge came and did it out of the goodness of their hearts.
